It would be very easy and possibly quite natural to assume that the name of Köhler might be of German or Austrian origin. However, Ernesto Köhler was born in Modena in northern Italy and was most definitely an Italian. For those wishing to explore this oddity and to further understand the complexities of the region in the 18th and 19th centuries, may I suggest that you take a look at the history of the Habsburgs and also that of the Austrian Empire. Although both interesting and historically fascinating, it would take far too much time for me to delve into as an introduction to Study No. 13!
