INTERVALS and ARTICULATION from OP. 13, No. 8
Jacques-François Gallay (1795-1864)
With a marking of Allegro risoluto, we can safely assume that this study needs to be played with a sturdy degree of backbone and grip.
However, we will also need to be careful of not overcooking both disciplines highlighted here, of articulation and intervals. Although marked forte from the start, the attack should not be angrily explosive. When we see this dynamic marking, we all too frequently respond by using energy in a rather too enthusiastic manner and from the wrong parts of the body. It is worth remembering that forte is not an instruction to overblow and make everything sound forced and ugly!
