With a marking of Agitato, it is clear that Gallay is wanting us to approach and play this study with a high degree of frenzied urgency. If this were to be incidental music from a play or even an old silent movie, we could imagine that something uncomfortable was about to happen, or indeed had just taken place (such as our heroine being tied to the railway track by a dastardly villain…..
