Gallay Study No. 12

This delightfully lyrical study could comfortably pass as an aria of hope or aspiration from an opera by Donizetti. The way we breathe and control phrases will be of key importance. It is our task to reflect various changes of character in the work, through varying the sound and sympathetically knitting melodic lines together.

Gallay Study No. 11

If practising arpeggios fills you with dread, then this brisk and joyful study should at least present an appropriate route to a modicum of greater enjoyment! Apart from providing material for us to improve our abilities concerning straightforward and broken arpeggios, in a different technical department, Gallay presents further opportunities to help us achieve more nimble and agile single tonguing, in particular whilst playing at speed. This study is also of interest, for appreciating and understanding the differences of audibility throughout each of the three octaves of the flute.
