Today’s new video illustrates something that I would have loved to have done in my days in symphony orchestras, but just didn’t quite have the nerve to go ahead with. It would have been worth it, simply to see the expression on the conductor’s face (and sitting immediately in front of the conductor as the principal flute does, you do get some spectacular looks when things don’t go quite the way they expect, which of course the audience rarely see!). I am giving you my 21st century version of the opening of l’apres-midi and it would be great if some flute officiandos out there could show us their ’alternatives’. All you need is a half decent phone! Get busy people!
